Robert Gentry’s dangerous Fredaville and Abigail Kawananakoa’s Miss Princess Handicap (G3) winner Perrier Cartel meet over 400 yards in the $24,480 Merial Los Alamitos Distaff Challenge (G3) on Saturday night at the Southern California track.

Bred by Gentry, Fredaville (Mr Jess Perry-Fearless Freda by Dash For Cash) returns to the Juan Aleman barn at Los Alamitos after racing last winter at Hialeah Park and this spring at Remington Park. At Hialeah, she was third in the $75,000 Hialeah Invitational Championship and then at Remington Park she narrowly won the Merial Remington Park Distaff Challenge and then was second as the 13-10 choice in the $50,000 Juno Request Stakes (G2).

Kawananakoa’s homebred Perrier Cartel (Corona Cartel-Perrier Jouet by Mr Jess Perry) is going after her third consecutive win after winning a conditioned allowance race and then scoring in the $35,000 Miss Princess Handicap. She pulled out to win the Miss Princess Handicap by a half length in :17.566 for the 350 yards. The Lin Melton-trained mare has won three of four starts this year and has been first or second in 10 of 18 starts.

Legacy Ranch and Muller Racing’s 2010 champion 2-year-old filly Flying Fig (Corona Cartel-Tender Flyer by Strawfly Special) finds class relief after racing to a fourth-place finish in the $200,000 Vessels Maturity (G1) on July 8. As a juvenile, she was second in the Golden State Million (G1) and the Los Alamitos Two Million (G1), and she returned last year to qualify for the $987,000 Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1).
