Royally-bred Glory Rider got her first stakes win Saturday while holding off stablemate Dreamnwideopen by a head in the $30,900 Race for Hope Bonus Challenge at Canterbury Park. Corona Mit Go finished a neck back in third.

A sister to Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity (R) winner Mighty B Valiant and a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Mighty Invictus, Glory Rider completed the 400 yards in :20.327 into a 7 mph headwind. The $15,450 winner's purse boosted her earnings to more than $65,000.

“She stumbled a bit (out of the gate)," said jockey Augstin Silva, “but she righted herself and went on with it."

Kasey Willis conditions the Valiant Hero filly for You And Me Partners. She was bred in Oklahoma by Homer Hill from the One A High mare Mighty B Doll.

Glory on the racetrack is a fleeting commodity -- there one instant and gone the next. Nobody knows it better than trainer Willis of Colman, Okla., who has lost a few matchups this summer in Shakopee to trainer Stacy Charette-Hill (Hill saddled third-place finisher Corona Mit Go).
“It’s nice to get one back,’’ he said after finishing one-two with Glory Rider and Dreamwideopen.

Willis and Charette-Hill compete at many of the same racetracks, so they’ve beaten and lost to one another on numerous occasions. Willis wasn’t quite sure what to expect from his two starters. It might have ended up the other way around.

Dreamnwideopen has the same dam, This Dreams Flying, as does another horse familiar to Canterbury folks, the Amber Blair-trained Hes Relentless, the fastest qualifier for the $2.6 million All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs this weekend. Sam Green owns the Feature Mr Jess filly out This Dreams Flying, by Strawfly Special. Sunflower Supply Co. bred the brown miss, who earned $6,180.

Corona Mit Go is a PYC Paint Your Wagon homebred for Christie and Mikel Donahue. Jorge Torres was in the irons, earning $4,635 for the effort. The 4-year-old filly is out of Missy Mit Go, by Himito Dancer.

Midnight Sunlight, Drinkin The Gold and Painted Sable completed the field.
