Fastest qualifier Italia Gold returned to win the $105,000 Bank of America South America Championship Challenge.

The mare, who was foaled in October 2009, is owned by Haras Sao Matheus and was bred by Gianni Franco Samaja. Italia Gold will follow in her family's footsteps; she is a half sister to the Corona For Me stallion Fantastic For Me, who won the 2011 edition of the race and was named the sport's very first South American champion.

Italia Gold ran the 440 yards in :21.46. She was ridden by A. Dutra and trained by M.C. Cruz.

Tiger Verde was second by a length. Eletrika Bryan PK was third, followed by Made Of Granite, Nevaeh, Ucantelitshightide, Inhaca Gold and Easy Steel.

With the win, Italia Gold earns the first berth to the $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1), to be run November 9 at Los Alamitos.
