Fastest-qualifier JZ Zoomin Cuervo goes for his fourth win from five starts in the $409,000 Hialeah Futurity while top-qualifier Dash Master Jess chases his first stakes win in the $227,260 Hialeah Derby on Sunday afternoon at Hialeah Park.

Wootan Racing’s homebred JZ Zoomin Cuervo (Jess Zoomin-Eyesa Lil Cuervo by Lil Bit Cuervo) arrived at Hialeah Park in sharp form and raced to a three-quarter-length win in the first of seven Hialeah Futurity trials. The gelding’s time of :21.357 for the 440 yards was the top mark.

JZ Zoomin Cuervo came to Hialeah Park after a third-place run in the $146,000 Oklahoma Horseman’s Association Mystery Futurity (RG2). He won an allowance race and then won his OHA Mystery Futurity trial by one-half length.

From seven starts, JZ Zoomin Cuervo has four wins, a pair of seconds and a third-place finish.

The Ricardo Martinez-owned and -trained PYC First Prize Fany (PYC Paint Your Wagon-First Prize Fancy by Mr Jess Perry) has won three of six starts, including her Hialeah Futurity trial by one-half length with the second-fastest time of :21.429. She raced at Indiana Downs and capped her four starts there with a third-place finish in the $74,800 Governor’s Stakes in her start before her Hialeah Futurity trial.

In the Hialeah Derby, Cesar Rosales’ Dash Master Jess (Mr Jess Perry-Dash Master Miss by Dash For Destiny) meets Wade Helton and Jarrett Helton’s Joker On Jack (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Miss Six Fortune by Six Fortunes) in a very competitive stakes.

Dash Master Jess came off qualifying for the $394,306 Texas Classic Derby (G1) to demolish his rivals in his Hialeah Derby trial. The colt won by two-and-one-quarter lengths, and his time of :21.355 for 440 yards was the quickest mark from five trials.

Trained by Rolando Almanza, Dash Master Jess was second in the $59,000 Adequan Sam Houston Derby Challenge and fourth in the $72,540 Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge (G3).

Joker On Jack’s classy resume makes him very dangerous in the Hialeah Derby.

The third-place finisher in the $1,055,000 Rainbow Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs last summer, Joker On Jack went on for trainer Alfredo Gomez to win the $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) and take his Hialeah Derby trial by a head with the third-fastest qualifying time of :21.614.
