Mossy Oak Tree Streak on Line

Fastest qualifier ready for Delta Downs Louisiana-bred Derby.

May 30, 2012

Mossy Oak Tree puts his four-race winning streak on the line when he starts as the fastest qualifier to the $128,045 Delta Downs Louisiana-bred Derby (RG2) on Friday night.

Owned by Mac Sumpter and Christopher Gautreaux, Mossy Oak Tree (Oak Tree Special-All Eyes On Madison by Mr Eye Opener) wrapped up his 2-year-old season with a second-place finish in the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile (RG2) and has since reeled off four-straight wins this year.

Mossy Oak Tree took an optional-claiming race by a length and then impressed in his Mardi Gras Derby trial when he drew out to a 1 1/2-length win as the 11-10 choice. He retained that respect in the $95,684 Mardi Gras Derby when he went off at nearly 2-1 odds and prevailed by a neck.

The Kevin Broussard-trained Mossy Oak Tree won his Louisiana-bred Derby trial by a neck after a late rally. His time of :19.634 for 400 yards was the quickest time from two trials.

Michael Taylor’s JLS Makeing Trouble (Toast To Dash-Psalmist by Osceola Warrior) is ready to move up to the stakes ranks after winning two of his three starts for trainer Heath Taylor. He won his maiden at first asking back in October and raced to his second career win when he won the other Louisiana-bred Derby trial by a hard-earned head in the second-fastest time of :19.670.

Max Langlinais and Donald Rubin’s The Game Lover (Game Patriot-La Lover by Streakin La Jolla) pushed JLS Makeing Trouble to the finish and was rewarded with the third-fastest time of :19.695. The gelding is after his first win since taking his LQHBA Futurity (RG1) trial in November.
