In the last race of the eight-day meet the Gillespie County Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, Texas, Mr Sonic Boom demolished the field by 1 ¾-lengths to win the $132,850 Gillespie County Fair Futurity (G3).
The gelded son of Easy Winning Jet covered 350 yards in :17.394 for breeder, owner and trainer Lance Moore. Eleazar Guillen rode the Louisiana-bred who posted the third-fastest time in the trials and went off at 5-2 in the final.
Mr Sonic Boom has had a busy campaign that started in February with a second-place finish in the trials for the Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2) and an eighth-place finish in the final in March. He then made four starts at Delta Downs before shipping to Gillespie and breaking his maiden with a 2 ½-length win in the trials. His earnings now stand at $66,844.
Mr Sonic Boom is the third stakes winner sired by the Runaway Winner stallion Easy Winning Jet and the first starter out of the Vital Sign mare Ms Baseline.
Carlos Martinez’s Mr Jess Feature, a gelding by Feature Mr Jess, finished second, a nose in front of even-money favorite Man Who Wouldbe King, a FDD Dynasty colt running for Jose Oviedo.
