Joel Tavarez’s Prospect To The Top jumped out to an early lead in the $150,000 Zia Park Championship (G1) on Sunday and never looked back before hitting the wire 1 3/4 lengths in front under jockey Oscar Rincon. The Mario Sanchez trainee, sent off at 6-1, sprinted 440 yards in :21.323 to earn his third graded stakes victory at Zia and fifth overall in his career.

Bred in Texas by Sue May, the 4-year-old stallion by Coronas Prospect picked up his ninth win in 21 outings and boosted his bankroll to $767,150. His other stakes wins include the Hobbs America Futurity (G2) and Hobbs America Derby (G2) at Zia, the West Texas Derby (G3) at Sunland Park and the All American Gold Cup (G3) at Ruidoso Downs. His prior Grade 1 experience includes a second in the All American Derby, a third in the Southwest Juvenile Championship and a ninth-place finish in the All American Futurity.

Joe David Yates, Terry Wootan and Rick Sturdivant’s DM Streakn Thru Fire, who won the Lovington Stakes (G2) earlier in the meet at Zia, overcame a slow start to rally for second. Melissa Miller’s homebred Jess Featureme Quick, winner of this year’s Hobbs America Derby (G3), took third. Millionaire and three-time Grade 1 winner Llano Teller lugged in early and finished sixth as the 3-2 favorite.
