Town Policy Starts Los Al's Big Weekend
Kool Million heads Town Policy Handicap.
November 1, 2012
One of the most important weekends during the year-long Los Alamitos season starts on Friday night with Dr. Ed Allred’s consistent Kool Million racing in the $25,000 Town Policy Handicap for 3-year-olds over 400 yards.
On Saturday night, Flame N Flash tries to continue her march to a championship in the $1 million Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1) and on Sunday night, probable champion One Dashing Eagle should be favored for his third Grade 1 win in a million-dollar race when he runs in the $1,118,000 Golden State Million Futurity (G1).
Kool Million (Bono Jazz-Kool As Ever by Chicks Beduino) won his only start at 2 and has moved up to the stakes division this year. After taking the $151,750 Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes, he won the Dillingham Handicap, was second in the Vandy’s Flash Handicap and day-lighted the field in the Jens List Stakes (R).
The horse who defeated Kool Million in the Vandy’s Flash was Feliz Gonzalez’s A Mere Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-A Mere Classic by A Classic Dash) and he will be trying to break a two-race losing streak in the Town Policy after winning four-straight races. In addition to his Vandy’s Flash win, he took his Adequan Los Alamitos Derby Challenge trial during his winning streak for trainer Jose Antonio Moreno.
Mimi Wells’ New Look (Walk Thru Fire-Make Over by Separatist) fits well at this level. The Dan Francisco-trained gelding is also trying to regain his winning form. He won five of six starts from December through July. He has been winless in in latest four starts, but qualified for the Golden State Derby (G1) and the Governor’s Cup Derby (RG2).
The peak of his hot streak and his career came when he won the $184,000 El Primero Del Ano Derby (G2) as the 13-10 favorite.
