Zupers Quick Dash Takes Vals Fortune

Gelding becomes three-time winner of Delta Downs stakes.

Zupers Quick Dash won the $60,000 Vals Fortune Stakes (RG3) for the third time in four years as he prevailed by a nose on Saturday night at Delta Downs. The 7-year-old gelding by Heza Fast Dash also won the event in 2010 and 2012. He did not run in the 2011 edition.

Ridden by David Alvarez and trained by Bobby Martinez, Zupers Quick Dash covered 400 yards in :19.425 for his 11th career win. Bred in Louisiana by Mark Langford, Zupers Quick Dash has banked $411,129.

Champion JLS Mr Bigtime, the runner-up in the 2010 All American Futurity (G1), had an early lead and held on for second. The Bigtime Favorite gelding is approaching millionaire status and improved his earnings to $969,547. Favored Political Option, a two-time stakes winner this year, finished third.

Also on the card, Rachael Stephens’ Doyles Dashing Star won the $34,350 Virgil Bond Stakes for the second consecutive year. The 7-year-old mare by Heza Fast Dash grabbed an early lead from post eight and never looked back before hitting the wire 1 ½ lengths in front with an 870-yard clocking in :45.796. Bobby Ransom rode the Georgia-bred for trainer Gene Stephens.

Doyles Dashing Star, who was bred by Barry McDonald, has won 10 of 39 career starts with earnings of $147,178.

Henry Padgett’s Slinkys Fortune, a gelding by Dashs Slinky, closed to take second with even-money favorite Eyeontheline in third.
