Breeder, owner and trainer Beverly Sharp of Quinlan, Texas, took on a fourth title August 27: world champion.
At the 2013 Adequan Select World Championship Show, Beverly led Glamorousacquisition to the gold trophy in aged mares.
“She’s my baby,” Beverly said in her Journal interview. “I bred her mother, and we own (her sire), Acquisitions, so she has been at the barn since she was born. She’s very special to my heart and she’s a joy to work with.”
Glamorousacquisition is a 2009 sorrel mare by Acquisitions and out of PJ Prophetic Glamour by Obvious Prophet.
“She looked like a little gangly giraffe (at birth),” Beverly said. “And every year, she has just gotten better and better. I brought her here last year and was third.”
This year, Beverly walked out with the world championship globe in her hands. In 2012, “Gigi” had spent time with AQHA Professional Horseman Ross Roark of Monahans, Texas, before her trip to the Adequan Select World in Amarillo, but this year, Ross didn’t have room in his barn, so Beverly fit the mare herself, with occasional tips from Ross.
“She’s a sweetheart,” Beverly said. “She’s my girl. And this year, she just stayed home the whole time and by her being home, we really connected. I have put a lot of time and love and work into her, and it paid off.”
Beverly also qualified Gigi for the Bank of America Amateur World Championship Show.
“(But) all of you people out here are just so nice and accommodating,” she said. “(Select is) my favorite place to go. I had her qualified for both, and I chose this one so I could come out here and have fun.”
The celebration will include Mexican food, Beverly said, and being surrounded by her friends and family.

“I want to say thank you to my husband, (Gary,) who lets me do all this and to Ross Roark, who has always been there for us, and all the love in God and things I’m surrounded by,” she said.
“We feel really blessed.”
