Another win for Cooper Dobbs and JBees Private Jet

Eleven-year-old Cooper Dobbs is no stranger to the show ring. Cooper, from Jonesboro, Arkansas, added to his long list of accomplishments August 2 at the 2013 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City.

Cooper won the 3-year-old geldings championship in 2012 with JBees Private Jet, then the pair returned to Ford Youth World to earn the championship in the aged geldings division. This year was Cooper’s third at Ford Youth World.

“It felt really good,” Cooper said. “I was really, really nervous, but it turned out really good.”

JBees Private Jet, known as “Diesel” around the barn, was also excited about the win. As Cooper gathered up their awards, Diesel let loose with a celebratory buck.

“He got really excited,” Cooper said.

Cooper gave his horse the striking nickname.

“I always wanted a horse named that,” Cooper says.

The class of 19 was filled with all ages of competitors at all levels, but Cooper didn't let his nerves show. When the announcer called out Diesel as the champion, Cooper was relieved.

“I was like, ‘Oh, thank goodness,’ ” Cooper said. “I got a new buckle. I got my second gold trophy. It’s just a really good feeling.”

While the aged geldings win was a great start to the show, Cooper has one more halter class to go. Cooper has also qualified This Big to compete for the 2-year-old geldings title. “Si” has a personality much like Diesel’s.

“He’s about the same as Diesel. He’s really, really good. He’s calm and everything.”
