At a cold spring rodeo, somewhere in Colorado or Wyoming, Mergelman had a startling realization that while she was doing something she loved, it was time to focus on something in which she actually had some talent — primarily art.  She still loves to ride, watch good trainers work with good horses and go to rodeos; only now she is on the other end of the camera.

Mergelman’s background with horses underlies her goal to portray horses realistically in anatomy, posture, and disposition; even though she intentionally works with abstraction, loose brushwork, and vivid colors.

Along with the America’s Horse in Art Show, Mergleman has recently exhibited in the Colorado Governor’s Show, the Mountain Oyster Club Art Show, the Charles Goodnight Barn Show, and the Western Art Show at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
