When the weather outside isn’t so frightful, take some of these ideas and put them to use to have a little fun with your horse.

Winter, it’s the most wonderful time of the year, isn’t it? Snow covers the ground (in most places), the air is clean and crisp, and the landscape is full of sights of Christmas lights and decorative wreaths.

Instead of staying cooped up inside with your coffee and blankets, here are some ideas to get you and your horse outside to have some fun.

1. Snow Angels

Little did you know, horses love making snow angels just like we do! Although, the finished product might not be as pretty, they sure look cute doing it!

2. Skijoring

If you’re like me and don’t live where it snows very often, this might be a new concept. Derived from a Norwegian word meaning “ski driving,” skijoring is when a horse or dog pulls a person behind them on skis. If you have snow and a horse, go out and give it a try!

3. Sleigh Rides

There is nothing that screams winter fun like a sleigh ride!

4. Rides in the Snow

If you don’t have to means to make all of these things happen, just go jump on your horse (saddle or no saddle) and take a ride in the beautiful snowy weather. But be sure to bundle up!

5. Playing Dress Up

Last but not least, why not play a little make believe with your furry friend and play some dress up and capture the magic of the season?
