AQHA Headquarters calls the West Texas city of Amarillo home. Amarillo, which lies in the heart of the Texas Panhandle, began as an agriculture hub with many cattle ranches and has grown into a populous city with a variety of attractions.

Despite its growth, the western way of life is still prevalent throughout the area, making it a perfect destination for horse enthusiasts. Here are five reasons why you should visit AQHA and Amarillo before the summer’s over.

     1. “TEXAS” Musical Drama

A theatrical play rich in history, the “TEXAS” musical is a must-see when visiting the Amarillo area during the summer months. The show takes place in a beautiful pioneer amphitheater nestled in the basin of Palo Duro Canyon, which is the second largest canyon in the country.

AQHA partners with the “TEXAS” show to educate people about the Association. The musical’s horses now sport AQHA saddle pads, made by AQHA Corporate Partner Professional’s Choice. Watch for the AQHA logo when you watch the world-famous “TEXAS” show!

AQHA may call Amarillo home, but its influence reaches members all around the world. Learn more about the far-reaching benefits of the organization and how you can become an AQHA member.

     2. American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum

Built in 1991, the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum is located adjacent to AQHA Headquarters. It’s home to the most comprehensive collection of equine information in the country, a hall of fame featuring historical individuals and horses, plus the Quarter Horse Outfitters store.

In addition, traveling exhibits with sculptures, paintings and artifacts are featured for a limited time each year. The ninth annual America’s Horse in Art Show & Sale is running through October 15. The exhibit features pieces by world-renowned Western artists, and this year’s signature artist is Iwona Jankowski of Magnolia, Texas.

      3. Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Located just 30 miles outside of Amarillo, Palo Duro Canyon State Park stretches across nearly 30,000 acres. With miles of trails and beautiful scenery, this is a lucrative destination for those who love the outdoors. In addition, multiple horseback riding trails run throughout the state park, giving horse enthusiasts the opportunity to see gorgeous country on the back of an American Quarter Horse.

      4. Tour AQHA Headquarters

Directly across from the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum is AQHA’s Headquarters. Guests are always welcome to schedule a tour and learn about the world’s largest equine breed registry and membership organization. Learn more about visiting AQHA Headquarters.
