OJD Jess A Bug won the richest race of his career to date in the $170,100 Energy Downs Derby.

On Sunday at Energy Downs 307 Racing in Gillette, Wyoming, OJD Jess A Bug kept his perfect record intact with his ninth win in as many starts in the $170,100 Energy Downs Derby. Ridden by David Alvarez Jr. for trainer Javier Fuentes and breeders/owners Karla Diaz Gomez and Oscar Jaime Gomez, the Idaho-bred gelding dashed 350 yards in :17.176 as the 3-10 favorite. The son of One Sweet Jess earned a 112 speed index for the one-length victory recorded with a 28 mph tailwind.

OJD Jess A Bug now has earnings of $226,500 and this was his fourth career stakes win. He has raced at four different tracks in Idaho, Utah and Wyoming without losing a race, including Weber Downs, Pocatello Downs, Sweetwater Downs and Energy Downs. OJD Jess A Bug is out of the winning PYC Paint Your Wagon mare Bugs Wagon.

Luis Abelardo Gonzalez’ s Mysterious Cartel, a Texas-bred colt by Five Bar Cartel ridden by Cesar Moreno for trainer Luis H. Gonzalez, finished second and improved his record to 11-4-4-1 with earnings of $78,900. 

Cornerstone Stables’ Konspire, a filly by Favorite Cartel who broke her maiden earlier this year at Remington Park, took third.
