My First Luv, a sorrel daughter of champion First Moonflash owned and trained by Joel Gutierrez, dug in at the wire to win Friday's New Mexico Breeders' Stakes (RG3) for state-bred 3-year-olds at SunRay Park.
Ridden by Brian Barraza and sent to post at odds of nearly 8-1, My First Luv covered 400 yards in :19.680 while defeating 11-10 favorite Pavel by a neck. The filly earned her first stakes victory while pocketing the $48,600 winner's share of the $81,000 purse.
My First Luv was stretching out in distance off of her second-place finish, a head behind winner Easily Bella CSJ, in the March 2, 350-yard Sunburst Stakes RG3 for New Mexico-bred sophomore fillies at Sunland Park. My First Luv was bred by Mark and Annette McCloy, and she was a $9,500 yearling purchase at the 2023 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs.
My First Luv is out of Desperate Love, an unraced California-bred daughter of Walk Thru Fire. Her second dam, the Corona Cartel mare Remember Me Rose, won two graded stakes in New Mexico in 2007 and was a finalist in No Secrets Here's '06 All American Futurity (G1).
Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, My First Luv has won three of her 11 races and has banked $142,220.
