Thomas J. Scheckel’s TS Kiss My Tail had too much speed and that gave his rivals a great view of his tail while racing to the fastest qualifying time in trials to the $83,600 Desert Classic Futurity at Turf Paradise.

Making his career debut in the trials, TS Kiss My Tail got a solid start — especially for a first-time starter — and was making a statement by the halfway mark of the 300-yard trial. He then pulled out to a one-length victory in :15.840 and scored a 19-1 upset victory, proving that you have to run the race to find the winner.

The second- and third-place horses, Famous N Lace and Dangerous One, reached the finals with the third- and fourth-fastest qualifying marks.

TS Kiss My Tail is a well-bred horse from the first crop of the Ruidoso Futurity winner and promising sire Cyber Monday, who is by Favorite Cartel and out of the blue hen producer Remember Me Rose. She is also the dam of Cyber Monday’s full brothers Champion Cyber Attack, five-time Grade 1 winner Powerful Favorite, two-time Grade 1 winner Bomb Cyclone and Golden State Million (G1) winner Runforyourlife. Remember Me Rose has produced four other stakes winners and three stakes-placed performers and is the sport’s all-time leading dam by money earned.

A Tres Of Sign, the dam of TS Kiss My Tail, is an 8-year-old mare who was second in the $219,894 Valley Junction Futurity while being beaten by only a nose and third in the $895,210 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity (RG1).

The Tres Seis daughter A Tres Of Sign has had three foals to race with TS Kiss My Tail being her sole stakes winner and her daughter TS Apollitical Sign is a winner.

First Painted Sign, the second dam of TS Kiss My Tail, was a Grade 1 winner with a victory in the $394,340 Speedhorse Gold and Silver Cup Futurity (G1) as the 7-10 favorite and she also scored a neck win in the $292,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G2).

The PYC Paint Your Wagon-sired First Painted Sign produced Ruidoso Futurity (G1) winner and Texas Classic Derby (G1) winner First Valiant Sign, an earner of $1,053,844. First Painted Sign is also the dam of $177,935 Hobbs America Derby (G3) winner Apollitical Sign.

Stylish Sign, the third dam of TS Kiss My Tail, raced to four wins before producing 16 foals. The Vital Sign daughter is the dam of $750,000 Champion of Champions (G1) winner Mr PYC To You along with $39,150 Will Rogers Derby Challenge and $90,000 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Derby (R) winner Second Painted Sign. Mr PYC To You and Second Painted Sign are both full brothers to First Painted Sign.

In the 2017 Champion of Champions (G1), Mr PYC To You was completely overlooked at 60-1 odds — the highest odds in the race — yet rallied to narrowly defeat 11-10 favorite Heza Dasha Fire, which goes to show that you have to run the horse race to find the winner.

TS Kiss My Tail had a perfect career debut and the way he pulled away in the last half of the race indicates that longer distances should be to his advantage.
