On November 1, the American Quarter Horse Association announced a modification to Rule SHW355.1 effective January 1, 2020.

Beginning January 1, 2020, a soft/flexible nonabrasive protective leather/leather-like covered chain may be used, in addition to the currently approved lip cord, in designated halter classes.

The Association and AQHA Executive Committee will continue to evaluate and monitor the appropriate use of the safety lead to ensure its use and that the rule change remain a positive change for the horses and exhibitors.
