Los Alamitos
Martha Wells’ Yanque, a homebred 4-year-old Favorite Cartel gelding, scored a wire-to-wire, 1 1/2-length victory in Sunday's 550-yard, $15,000 Paul B. Ford Memorial Handicap.

Ridden by Ruben Lozano for trainer Matt Fales, Yanque stopped the timer in a hand-timed :26.600, missing by just 56/1000ths of a second the track record of :26.544 set by El Corona Ariero on June 12, 2008. The gelding earned $8,250 from his seventh win in 30 races.

Yanque was bred in California, and he was coming off of a 1 1/2-length win in the 550-yard, $15,000 Scott Lewis Handicap at this track on November 8.

“He’s done well his last two outs,” Wells said. “He’s found his kick again. If you remember, in his 2-year-old year he had it, but then he lost it. He’s found it again.

"I was thinking of running him in the Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship, but we’ll take a look at the Barbra B Handicap (at 550 yards) as well," she added.

Raced in California and Arizona, Yanque has earned $149,761.

Run Raging Rhino Run, Chicks Fayvorite, CM Once Ina Blue Moon and A Mere Icon completed the order of finish.

Turf Paradise
Yuriana Ramirez's One Famous Icon on Sunday posted the fastest qualifying time to the December 22, $15,000-added AQRA Turf Paradise Open Derby.

Ridden by Mark Jasso, One Famous Icon won the first of two 400-yard trials by a neck in :19.581. Rigoberto Guillen prepped the Mr Jess Perry colt.

One Famous icon was bred in Texas by Johnny Trotter. The colt has won two of 13 races and has banked $28,960.
