CHR Racing’s Boot Scoots kicked off his 4-year-old campaign with his first career stakes victory in Saturday’s $80,000 Red or Green Stakes (RG2) for older New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park. With Oscar Andrade Jr. in the saddle for trainer Tony Sedillo, the gelded son of Jess A Chicks prevailed by a neck at odds of 6-1 over favored Bigg Picture. Boot Scoots covered 400 yards in :19.415 to earn a 92 speed index.
Bred by Jaime Cervantes, Boot Scoots is now a winner of five of 16 career starts with earnings of $140,739. The gelding ended his 3-year-old season on a high note with a close second-place finish in the $234,015 New Mexico Classic Derby (RG2) on November 23 at Zia Park.
Uno Menos’ Bigg Picture, a gelding by Big Daddy Cartel who won the $100,000 Zia Park Championship Stakes (G1) in his last start on December 14, put in a game effort to finish second and boosted his career bankroll to $456,609. Jesses Wish, a two-time stakes winner by Jesse James Jr, took third.
