Jetblack Dynasty, a son of champion FDD Dynasty campaigned by LMG Racing Inc., on Friday set the fastest qualifying time to the March 7, $184,225 West Texas Derby (G2) at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Noe Garcia Jr. in the last of six 400-yard trials, Jetblack Dynasty defeated second-fastest qualifier No Sandbaggin by a neck in :19.857. Mike Joiner prepped the Texas-bred gelding.

Jetblack Dynasty was bred by Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm LLC. The gelding was coming off of a wire-to-wire, one-length victory in a 400-yard, $20,110 maiden-special-weight dash at Sunland Park on January 19.

Raced in New Mexico and Texas, Jetblack Dynasty has won two of six outs and has banked $17,100.

No Sandbaggin was ridden by Raul Herrera for owner La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC and trainer Jose Efren Meraz. An earner of $35,985 from five starts, the brown daughter of Seperate Interest won last year's 300-yard West Texas Juvenile Stakes at Sunland Park.
