AQHA Regional Championships were first offered in 2005.
In 2005, AQHA first held its AQHA Regional Experiences. The events were yearly gatherings for AQHA's 11 regions and offered clinics, demonstrations and horse shows. No points are awarded, but prizes, even from the beginning were plentiful, thanks to sponsorship from AQHA corporate partners.
In 2010, the events evolved from the Regional Experiences to Regional Championships.
It's up to the AQHA affiliates within the region to work together to organize and host the event. Today, not every region hosts a Regional Championship.
