Advancing Equine Health Through Research
Our horses give us their all — whether in the thrill of competition or the quiet comfort of companionship. At the American Quarter Horse Foundation, we are committed to giving back by advancing the frontiers of equine health through research.
As one of the nation's top four private funders of equine research, the American Quarter Horse Foundation plays a vital role in advancing scientific discovery. Since 1960, we have awarded more than $13 million to colleges and universities to enhance understanding of equine health, management, and overall welfare.
The Foundation invites research proposals from nonprofit institutions that align with our mission, objectives, and areas of research interest. Funding is awarded to projects that are outcome-driven and designed to make a meaningful, lasting impact on the health and well-being of the American Quarter Horse and the broader equine community.
Our Mission – to advance relevant basic and applied research that enhances the well-being of the American Quarter Horse.
With your help, the Foundation fosters innovative equine research and education that leverages collaborative resources with exceptional scientists to address fundamental issues facing both the AQHA membership and the broader horse industry.
Grants are awarded for proposed research meeting the following programmatic objectives:
- Enhance the well-being of the American Quarter Horse
- Advance impactful research for practical application
- Produce research innovation through basic and applied sciences
- Promote findings to peers, clinicians, and industry stakeholders
- Foster education and training of future researchers
- Increase collaboration within the research industry
