Victor M. Lozano's First Neon Moon sprinted to his first stakes victory in Saturday's $100,000 New Mexico Horse Breeders' Association Stakes (RG2) for state-bred 3-year-olds at Sunland Park.

Ridden by Raul Herrera and sent to post at odds of 13-1, First Neon Moon covered 400 yards in :19.384 while aided by a reported 14-mph tail wind. Martin Orona Sr. prepped the gray son of champion First Moonflash, who banked the $60,000 winner's share of the purse.

First Neon Moon was bred by Meagan Cavasos. The colt is out of My Soul Mate, a winning daughter of Chicks Blazin and a finalist in the 2011 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park.

First Neon Moon has won three of eight races and has earned $107,560.

Jess Featured Girl finished second, a nose behind First Neon Moon, and was followed by Six Pack Fame, Stominado, Runner Chick, 5-2 favorite Champagne Room,  Meleros Dash, Don Chuy C, Jess Tequila Talkin, and Finnley.
