RACE RECORD: Tools In The Sky was fourth in last year’s All American Futurity. He was also sixth in the Southwest Juvenile Championship (G1), and now returns to contest the All American Derby with a neck victory in Trial 4 over fellow qualifier Valiant Tiberias. 

BREEDER: Tools In The Sky’s breeder is a partnership of George and Ruben Villalobos, based in Riverside, California. They have bred 23 horses, 14 of which have started and six that have returned winners with earnings of more than $332,000.

OWNER: Lincon Farm and Ranch LLC is based in Odessa, Texas, and has seven wins from 39 starts and earnings of $387,641. They purchased Tools In The Sky at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale for $30,000.

TRAINER: As a jockey, J.J. Gonzalez rode By By JJ to win the 2003 All American Futurity. As a trainer, he has saddled the earners of more than $4 million, including Grade 1 winner Executive Brass. He also trains All American Futurity qualifiers Mister Riptide and Lil Miss Sashay, and Derby qualifier Flying Cowboy 123.

QUALIFYING JOCKEY: Champion jockey Ricky Ramirez knows how to be a winner on and off the track. The rider was named the sport’s champion rider in 2015, and last year was named the Sam Thompson Memorial Jockey Award winner, which is an award given to a jockey by his or her peers based on personal character on and off the racetrack. He has ridden more than 1,200 winners and the earners of more than $33.4 million. 

PEDIGREE: Sire First Down Dash died in 2010, but his legacy is alive and vibrant. Immediately inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame after his passing, the world champion racehorse is the sport’s all-time leading sire, with more than $88.4 million in progeny earnings. 

He is the sire of a record six All American Futurity winners – Royal Quick Dash, Dash Thru Traffic, A Classic Dash, Corona Cash, Falling In Loveagain and No Secrets Here. 

Dam No Tools Required is a 20-year-old daughter of Jody O Toole who in her racing career won four stakes and earned $117,509. From 12 starters, she has produced seven winners and the earners of more than $863,000. They include stakes winners One Hot Mecanic (by Corona Caliente, $158,472) and Required Fire (by Walk Thru Fire, $71,235), stakes-placed runner Firing Tools (by Walk Thru Fire, $153,018) and Grade 1 runner Tools Of Fire (by Walk Thru Fire, $155,905).
