The Ruidoso Derby has traditionally been run at the beginning of the Ruidoso Downs season.
The Ruidoso Derby (G1) is the first leg of the Quarter Horse Derby Triple Crown races, started in 1994. The Ruidoso Derby has traditionally been run at the beginning of the Ruidoso Downs Race Track Season.
The Quarter Horse Derby Triple Crown is made up of the Ruidoso Derby, Rainbow Derby and All American Derby. If a horse wins all three races, its connections will receive a $1 million bonus.
