On January 14, attendees at Heritage Place Sale Co. in Oklahoma City will have an opportunity to purchase a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork while supporting the Sam Thompson Memorial Foundation, the American Quarter Horse Youth Racing Experience and the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.
Heritage Place opens its doors on January 14 and kicks off its Winter Mixed Sale pre-sale party at 5 p.m. The AQHA Racing Champions Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m.
During the pre-sale party, industry artist Josey Butler of Streakin B Art will be painting a piece at the Sam Thompson Memorial Foundation booth.
After the Racing Champions Ceremony, the artwork will be auctioned live at the post-event reception.
This is a rare opportunity for western art collectors to add a unique piece of art to their wall while also supporting the efforts of three groups that support racing.
Heritage Place will also host additional fundraisers for the Sam Thompson Memorial Fund with benefit breedings to be sold Thursday and Friday before the cataloged sale. The stallion services offered come from a number of the top stallions in the industry.
The Sam Thompson Memorial Foundation remembers the respected jockey, who was lost in 2008, by providing for the education, health and welfare of people in the racing industry. The foundation offers scholarships to youth, supports disabled jockeys and funds important services to those in need within the community.
The American Quarter Horse Youth Racing Experience allows select youth an immersive, inside look into the racing industry. They learn about the inner workings of racing and meet the people who share their passion for horses. Many youth have emerged from this program to become involved in the industry, citing this as a turning point in their lives.
The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund provides financial assistance to the athletes who have suffered catastrophic injuries in their line of work. The PDJF supports approximately 60 people who were permanently disabled as a result of on-track injuries.
