Everyone loves American Quarter Horse foals.
But it takes a lot more than a sire and dam to get a foal registration in the works. One of our most frequently asked questions by AQHA members is, “How do I register my foal?”
Three Ways to Submit an AQHA Registration Application
There are three ways to submit an AQHA registration form. Here we rank them in order of the speediest processing:
-
Online registration.
-
Email scanned registration application to registration@aqha.org.
-
Mail registration application.
Pre-Printed Registration Application
Every year, AQHA mails out a preprinted registration application (also called a breeder’s certificate) to every stallion owner who files a stallion breeding report. This application will contain pertinent information, such as the sire and dam’s information, mare and stallion owner’s name and address, and the breeding dates. It’s up to you, the proud owner of a new foal, to fill in the rest.
Download Blank Registration Application
Many AQHA stallion owners are turning to the online process to release their portion of the breeder’s certificate and no longer sign and forward the physical copy to the mare owner. If you do not receive your preprinted application, AQHA has a blank registration application available for download. The form is identical to what you would have been sent – you will just need the mare and stallion information and the breeding dates, and you’ll be ready to start your registration!
Information Needed for Registration Application
Getting started, you will need to have:
-
The sire and dam’s names and registration numbers.
-
The foal’s information, such as date of birth, gender, color.
-
The foal’s markings, including photographs of the left, right, front, and back.
-
Breeding method used to produce the foal.
-
A registration application completed by the mare owner at time of foaling as defined by REG102.4.
-
A breeder’s certificate, with breeding dates, from the stallion owner and mare owner at time of service.

Your foal represents a serious investment, carrying your hopes, dreams and a financial stake.
