Pour Me A Drinkk, a Prospect To The Top gelding bred, owned and trained by Fred Danley, won the fourth of five trials on Saturday at Zia Park for the $170,000-added New Mexico Classic Futurity (RG2). With James Flores in the irons, Pour Me A Drinkk prevailed by a half-length over Fire Powwer as the 3-5 favorite and clocked :17.211 for a 99 speed index at 350 yards.
Pour Me A Drinkk was also the fastest qualifier to the $1,158,003 New Mexico State Fair Futurity (RG2) on October 12 at The Downs at Albuquerque but nearly lost Flores at the break and finished 10th as the 9-10 favorite. That was the only time Pour Me A Drinkk has finished off the board in five starts.
Fire Powwer recorded the second-fastest qualifying time of :17.302 with his runner-up finish to Pour Me A Drinkk. A Big Daddy Cartel gelding owned by CHR Racing and trained by Tony Sedillo, Fire Powwer was ridden by Omar Iturralde. An earner of $111,418, Fire Powwer won the $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) at Sunland Park and took second in the $216,116 New Mexico Breeders Futurity (RG2) at SunRay Park.
