About the AQHA Ranching Heritage Intern Scholarship

Ideal candidates are current AQHA members who have successfully completed an internship with an AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder. Upon receipt of each application, AQHA Ranching Department will contact the Ranching Heritage Breeder for a letter of successful completion to be included in the materials provided to the scholarship selection committee. Funding for this scholarship may be applied to a degree or vocational program of the student's choice. Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment and a 2.5 cumulative grade point average. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship.

During the internships, students will learn foundational skills and knowledge needed to develop the next generation of successful ranch managers/owners. These internships are an intensive hands-on learning opportunities that provide experiences in the cattle and equine segments of the ranching industry and demonstrate the important role of American Quarter Horses in beef production. Please contact the AQHA Ranching Department for further information on the internship opportunities.

 

About AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders

AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeders is a breeder referral program. To become part of the Ranching Heritage Breeders, ranches must be members of AQHA and their ranch remudas must consist of American Quarter Horses, which must be used primarily to work ranch cattle. The ranch must own at least five American Quarter Horse mares that are used to produce the remuda, and the ranch must have received at least an AQHA 10-year breeder award.

Ranches that qualify can download this application or call AQHA Customer Service at (806) 376-4811. The AQHA Ranching Committee and AQHA Executive Committee review the applications. The program costs $25 per year. Ranching Heritage Breeders are entitled to use a special logo on their advertising, and that logo also appears on the AQHA registration certificates of horses bred by Ranching Heritage Breeders. Ranches that are members of the Ranching Heritage Breeders also are eligible to enter their horses in exclusive competitions and sales.
