Non-Exempt (Hourly) Open Positions

From working with horse registrations, to production and processing of paperwork, to accounting, to customer care and much more, there are a variety of Non-Exempt positions available at AQHA. Much of the horse paperwork that is completed for members and owners on a day-to-day basis is completed by Non-Exempt employees. These employees make up more than two-thirds of the AQHA workforce. Depending on the area of the position, there are a variety of position levels and much room for advancement and promotion opportunities.

Customer Care Representative

AQHA is currently seeking customer-centric care representatives in Amarillo, Texas.

Position Summary:

Interact with customers to provide information in response to inquiries about programs, products and services and to handle and resolve inquiries by answering incoming direct line telephone calls, 800 number lines, e-mails and social media.  Assist customer if possible or route calls to appropriate department.

 Essential Functions:

  • Confer with customers by telephone or in person to provide information about products or services, take or enter orders, cancel accounts, or obtain details of complaints.
  • Keep records of customer interactions or transactions, recording details of inquiries, complaints, or comments, as well as actions taken.
  • Complete customer request forms, prepare and complete change of address records, or assist to complete documents, using computers.
  • Refer unresolved customer grievances to designated departments for further investigation.
  • Obtain and examine all relevant information to assess validity of complaints and to determine possible causes. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Answer incoming telephone calls when all other customer service representatives are on the phone and route calls to the appropriate departments.
  • Stay abreast of all changes made to rules, procedures, personnel, phone responsibilities and proper customer service and telephone techniques.
  • Perform duties for other departments as required.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by supervisor or department head.

Graphic Artist

AQHA is currently looking for an experienced graphic artist to join our award-winning design team in Amarillo, Texas.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Design advertising and editorial layouts for AQHA publications and digital media utilizing graphic art computers, materials and equipment.  May use a variety of mediums to achieve artistic or decorative effects. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create and design advertising and editorial layouts each month for two magazines.
  • Create designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts.
  • Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and select style and size of type.
  • Confer with clients to discuss and determine layout design.
  • Develop graphics and layouts for product illustrations, company logos, and Internet websites.
  • Review final layouts and suggest improvements as needed.
  • Prepare illustrations or rough sketches of material, discussing them with clients or supervisors and making necessary changes.
  • Use computer software to generate new images.
  • Key information into computer equipment to create layouts for client or supervisor.
  • Maintain archive of images, photos, or previous work products.
  • Prepare notes and instructions for workers who assemble and prepare final layouts for printing.
  • Draw and print charts, graphs, illustrations, and other artwork, using computer.
  • Study illustrations and photographs to plan presentation of materials, products, or services.
  • Research new software or design concepts.

Qualifications:

  • Design degree preferred and/or 2+ years of experience in the field
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and inDesign
  • Ability to think outside the box and multi-task projects
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS a plus
  • Illustration skills a plus

Machine Operator

AQHA is currently seeking a part-time machine operator in Amarillo, Texas. The ideal availability is Monday-Friday; 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Prepare outgoing mail for distribution. Use hand or mail handling machines to address, seal, stamp, fold, stuff, and affix postage to outgoing mail or packages. Duties may also include keeping necessary records and completed forms. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Seal or open envelopes, by hand or by using machines.
  • Affix postage to packages or letters by hand, or stamp materials, using postage meters.
  • Verify that items are addressed correctly, marked with the proper postage, and in suitable condition for processing.
  • Place incoming or outgoing letters or packages into sacks or bins based on destination or type, and place identifying tags on sacks or bins.
  • Clear jams in sortation equipment.
  • Weigh packages or letters to determine postage needed, using weighing scales and rate charts.
  • Collect outgoing mail, using carts as necessary.
  • Determine manner in which mail is to be sent, and prepare it for delivery to mailing facilities.
  • Lift and unload containers of mail or parcels onto equipment for transportation to sortation stations.
  • Wrap packages or bundles by hand, or by using tying machines.
  • Fold letters or circulars and insert them in envelopes.
  • Remove from machines printed materials such as labeled articles, postmarked envelopes or tape, and folded sheets.
  • Add ink, fill paste reservoirs, and change machine ribbons when necessary.

 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Move office furnishings as instructed.
  • Load/unload trailers as instructed.
  • Assist co-workers as assigned by supervisor and department head. 

This position does require a valid driver's license.

Versatility Technician I

Awards Recognition Concepts (ARC) is currently seeking a Versatility Technician I in Amarillo, Texas. 

Position Summary:

Operate one or more of a variety of office machines, such as scanners, photocopying, photographic, and duplicating machines, or other office machines.  Update Digital Storefront (DSF) software for both Awards Recognition Concepts and Print Services.  Process print jobs and build templates using DSF.  Assist with design, setup and processing of banner and sign projects.  Set up and process jobs on engraving lasers.  Assist customers with issues related to DSF orders by telephone, e-mail or in person.  Set up and process jobs on the Digital Press.  Duties may also include keeping necessary records and completed forms.

Essential Functions:

  • Read job orders to determine the type of work to be done, the quantities to be produced, and the materials needed.
  • Enter orders for ARC and/or print services as needed or instructed.
  • Operate office machines such as high speed business photocopiers, reader/scanners, addressing machines, stencil-cutting machines, microfilm reader/printers, folding and inserting, and binder machines.
  • Place original copies in feed trays, feed originals into feed rolls, or position originals on tables beneath camera lenses.
  • Compute prices for services and receive payment, or provide supervisors with billing information.
  • Sort, assemble, and proof completed work.
  • Set up and adjust machines, regulating factors such as speed, ink flow, focus, and number of copies.
  • Monitor machine operation, and make adjustments as necessary to ensure proper operation.
  • Load machines with materials such as blank paper or film.
  • Maintain stock of supplies, and requisition any needed items.
  • File and store completed documents.
  • Clean machines, perform minor repairs, and report major repair needs.
  • Operate auxiliary machines such as collators, pad and tablet making machines, staplers, and paper punching, folding, cutting, and perforating machines.
  • Complete records of production, including work volumes and outputs, materials used, and any backlogs.
  • Deliver completed work.
  • Prepare and process papers for use in scanning.
  • Cut copies apart and write identifying information, such as page numbers or titles, on copies.

Exempt (Salary) Open Positions

Exempt employees can be found in the Association in a variety of departments that are critical to the overall business planning and strategic business decisions for the future of the Association like Marketing, Accounting, Publications, Human Resources and other areas. Director of Development

AQHA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the Director of Development position with the American Quarter Horse Foundation and Hall of Fame. The candidate will work out of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum located in Amarillo, Texas.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a part of an overall strategic development plan, direct/plan/coordinate activities to solicit and maintain funds for the American Quarter Horse Foundation. Work in conjunction with the Chief Foundation Officer and the Foundation team to craft successful fundraising strategies for major & principal gift development. In conjunction with the Chief Foundation Officer, oversee major gift and prospect development, prospect research, and current/planned/endowed giving.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop an efficient and productive prospecting system that produces a significant number of qualified leads for direct cultivation and solicitation of major gift opportunities.

  • Develop strategies for building relationships with potential donors.

  • Facilitate effective donor development communications with donor prospects and donors. 

  • Identify and be able to educate potential donors on multiple giving options.

  • Develop fundraising plans that maximize contributions and are cost effective.

  • Secure charitable gifts from individuals or corporate donors.

  • Develop strategies to encourage new or increased contributions.

  • Assist in the development of budgets for major gift development.

  • Effectively steward existing donor relationships for further cultivation. 

  • Write and send letters of thanks to donors.

  • Maintains the highest ethical and professional standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in leading major gift development in a capital campaign or special project and successful record of achieving campaign/project goals.

  • Experience in developing a strategic plan for soliciting and securing gifts from private sources or the equivalent in the corporate environment.

  • Knowledge and skill in planned gift development and/or estate and financial planning.

Manager of Museum Programs

AQHA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the Manager of Museum Programs position with the American Quarter Horse Foundation and Hall of Fame. The candidate will work out of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum located in Amarillo, Texas.

POSITION SUMMARY

Promote the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum by creating and planning displays, exhibits, related activities and events, and marketing strategies that will engage the public with the American Quarter Horse via the Museum. Work closely with the Curator to develop exhibits and displays that are supportive of the overall Foundation mission and program focus areas.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop and implement programs that will increase attendance and support of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum and global awareness of and engagement in the American Quarter Horse industry.

  • Develop annual marketing plan in cooperation with marketing department.

  • Develop budgets for exhibits, displays, programs and events.

  • Arrange public appearances, lectures, contests, or exhibits for AQHF to increase product or service awareness or to promote goodwill.

  • Develop public relations through community education, involvement and support.

  • Serve as community liaison for the Museum.

  • Coordinate and host group visits to include adult tour and school field trip activities.

  • Oversee the development and management of a docent program.

  • Other administrative tasks as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Marketing/Communications or Education.

  • Two years’ experience as program coordinator at museum or comparable institute. 

  • Experience in staff/volunteer management and supervision.

  • Fundraising experience and/or education is desirable.
