The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, upon recommendation of the IHSA Executive Committee and working in cooperation with American Quarter Horse Association, has issued a letter expressing IHSA's support of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association in their fight to keep varsity equestrian a viable NCAA sport.

A few days ago, the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Committee on Women's Athletics handed down their recommendation to the NCAA administration to phase out equestrian as an NCAA emerging women's sport. Kansas State University has already announced it will drop equestrian from their list of varsity sports at the end of this season, while thirteen other Division I teams continue to compete within NCEA, the official sanctioning body of NCAA equestrian. Three additional NCAA Division I teams and four Division II teams are included in the NCEA roster but compete in IHSA.

IHSA will continue to attentively follow the NCAA/NCEA proceedings in upcoming weeks and we wish NCEA the best.
