The afternoon at the Palasturla in Manerbio, Italy, where the fourth edition of the National Reining Horse Association European Derby is being held, saw 51 horse-rider combinations in the NRHA European Pre-Futurity Level 4 and Level 2 open divisions.

Winning the Level 4 open division, with a score of  218.5, was Bernard Fonck riding Big Fat (Big Chex To Cash-ARC Senorita Cal Bar by Snapper Cal Bar) owned and bred by 23 Quarter Horses Az. Agricola S.S.

“I got this horse in training last December, and he has always been good for me,” said the NRHA $1 million rider.  “Today I was really pleased with him and, as we move along, we will decide what to do.”

Claiming the reserve honors was Bernard’s wife, Ann. Riding Roses For Einstein (Einsteins Revolution-Roses Champagne by Topsail Whiz) for owner Nicole Keesen, Ann closed her run with a  217.

“This is a really good horse and I am so happy with the way he went today. The plans are now to show him at the German and then Italian Futurity,” Ann said.

Winning the Level 2 open division championship was Francesco Arrighi of Italy aboard Topsail Pop, a stallion owned by Rondanina Ranch and bred by Alessandro Cazzaniga.

“I’ve only had this horse in training in the last three months,” Arrighi said about the stallion by Remin Whiz and out of MM Lollipop by Lil Ruf Peppy. “I did not ask him much today. He’s definitely a good horse and after this pre futurity, I will be more convinced showing him in the future.”
