From High Class Reining
On July 22, the first High Class Reining Stakes and Show begins in Weikersdorf, Austria. The $120,000-added event, which runs through July 26, is powered by numerous sponsors, its main sponsor being KL Performance Horses. The event attracted Europe’s top reiner, including National Reining Horse Association $1 million riders Cody Sapergia, Rudi Kronsteiner, Bernard Fonck, Grischa Ludwig and Ann Fonck, as well as NRHA world champions Tina Kunstner-Mantl and Manuel Bonzano.
There are a variety of attractive NRHA classes, but the focus is on the $120,000-added NRHA High Class Reining Maturity for 5- to 8-year-old horses. Eighty-one horses have been entered in the open maturity with 67 in the non-pro.
“Everything is ready and our facility presents itself at its best,” says event manager Elli Preimesberger. “The organization was not easy, but it was worth every trouble. The best riders are here, and our main sponsor K&L Performance Horses is very enthusiastic about the event. The paid warm-ups started yesterday, and everything worked out smoothly. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the competitors are obviously happy with the arena dirt.”
This will be a hot week and weekend in every respect. Temperatures are in the higher 90s now, but the show management installed plenty of washing places for the horses. A pleasant breeze goes through the tent stalls, so it is not too terribly hot. And even the big trucks are connected to a special external generator.
The show starts tomorrow with the Novice Horse Open Level 2 with 47 horses, followed by the Rookie Level 1, the SBH Open (5 & under) and finally the Maturity non-pro go-ound. The best horses of the go-round and of the non-pro consolation run on Thursday will meet again in the Non-Pro Maturity final on Friday.
