Rock County Kid, owned by AQHA member T. Sharnai Thompson of Pilot Point, Texas, was named the National Snaffle Bit Association’s 2014 Horse of the Year.

“Rocky” was campaigned successfully by Sharnai and trainers Rusty and Katie Green and Maggie Grandquist in open and non-pro western events. The 2011 bay gelding is by Good I Will Be and out of JDZ Madison County by JD Concluded.

Some of the highlights of his year include wins in 3-year-old events at Show For Dough, the Little Futurity, Tom Powers Triple Challenge, NSBA World Championship Show and All American Quarter Horse Congress. Rocky and Thompson finished out the year by bringing home a world championship title in amateur western pleasure at the AQHA World Championship Show, while Rusty showed the bay gelding to the inaugural Level 1 western pleasure stakes title also at the AQHA World Show.

In 2014 alone, Rocky amassed earnings of $50,818.15 and 68.25 points in NSBA events.

“I hadn’t had a western pleasure horse for a long time, and I had started looking for one,” Thompson said. “He’s the one that got me excited about showing in western pleasure again. He’s such a good boy. He’s so great minded and such a good mover.”

When asked about Rocky, trainer Rusty Green says, “he is the type of horse that possesses the ‘intangibles.’ He has a presence about him that separates him from the pack. There's no doubt he will go on to do great things in the all around arena as well.”
