The Oil Can Classic was back in Tulsa, Oklahoma, April 10-12 at the Expo Square, starting Friday with an AQHA special event roping and cow horse show, including boxing.
The show marched on Saturday with halter, ranch riding and reining exhibitors showing to three judges, and roping and cow horse/boxing classes with two judges.
Finally, the Oil Can Classic wrapped up Sunday with an AQHA special event roping with two judges.
Highlights of weekend included the Smart Boons Fast 40, sponsored by American Quarter Horse stallion Smart Boons. The 40 fastest times from the junior and senior heading and heeling classes were called back to the Smart Boons Fast 40 Short Round for a chance at the $4,500 purse. Joseph Harrison was the Smart Boons Fast 40 winner.
Amateurs got the chance for a callback from the amateur heading and heeling to the Amateur Elite 10 Short Round, with a $1,200 purse. Greg Preissinger rode away as the Amateur Elite 10 winner.
The very popular Ride For A Roll was back, too, where exhibitors rolled the dice for a chance to win a saddle! Amateur roping class placings rolled the dice to win a Jody Ramer custom saddle, with Paul Bogart being the winner. On the cow horse side of things, AQHA Professional Horseman Brad Lund won the cow horse saddle sponsored by Smart Boons.
High-point buckles, sponsored by 5 Star Quarter Horses, were be presented to the high-point youth breakaway, high-point youth tie-down, high-point youth heading and high-point youth heeling.
