South Dakota Summer Shootout

Exhibitors relished the multitude of roping and ranch riding classes June 15-20 at the South Dakota Quarter Horse Association circuit in Brookings.

The South Dakota Quarter Horse Association Summer Shootout kicked off June 15-16 in Brookings with a double-judged roping and ranch riding special event. The circuit, managed by White Horse Show Management, continued on June 17-18 with a triple-judged show, then June 19-20 with a double-judged show. 

On hand to judge throughout the weekend were Sandy Jirkovsky, Carl McCuistion, David Fairchild, Larry Kasten, Margo Ball, Jo Carter, Cliff Kelmer, Timothy Abler and Leo Fourre. 

Other highlights from the SDQHA Summer Shootout included:

  • $300 added to each roping jackpot on June 15
  • $100-added amateur and $150-added open ranch riding classes on June 16, 17 and 19
  • Level 2 open heading, heeling and tie-down, plus Level 2 amateur heading and heeling
  • One free halter class with same horse riding in a performance class
  • National Reining Horse Association classes
