The crowning of the first grand champion put halter classes on center stage October 11 at the 2015 All American Quarter Horse Congress.
AQHA Professional Horseman Ross Roark led PF Supreme Surprise to champion title in aged mares before leading her to grand champion honors for owner Josh Weakly of Shelbyville, Illinois.
“That row of mares was pretty cool,” Josh said. “So just to be out there was pretty cool.”
PF Supreme Surprise is a 2010 sorrel mare by MH Supremo and out of Rivercity Girl by River City Renegade. “Diva” was bred by Chester W. Prince of Palmetto, Florida.
“We started showing her at the Redbud,” Josh said. “We showed her there and got her qualified, and this is only the second horse show we’ve brought her to.”
Josh plans to show Diva in amateur at Congress before taking her to the AQHA World Championship Show in November.
“She just looks like a mare,” Josh said. “She’s got a lot to her – pretty face and pretty back, a lot of body and a lot of balance. To me, she’s what a Quarter Horse ought to look like. She shows good and is a pretty cool mare.”
Congress competition continues in Columbus, Ohio, through October 25.
