Las Vegas is well known around the nation for an ample amount of sparkle. The Silver Dollar Circuit descended upon Vegas March 15-20 and brought even more sparkle and shine to sin city with sequins, stones and silver.
The Silver Dollar circuit has been running for 40 years. It started at Horsemen’s Park, moved to a location in Reno, Nevada, for a short amount of time, then returned to its Las Vegas roots. I have been fortunate to visit the show at all three of its locations. South Point Hotel & Casino is by far the best! Currently, the Silver Dollar Circuit is the fourth largest in the nation. This was one of their largest years for awards – they offered more than they ever have. The show staff also noted that they had an increase in sponsorships.
An exhibitors party was held on St. Patrick’s Day. Attendees fully embraced the colorful theme for the holiday. There was plenty of green to be seen around the barns and arenas. Exhibitor activities also included a chap race and hat toss! Classes were large and the schedule was packed full of events. This is the ultimate for all around events with multiple arenas running most of the day. Youth showed in one arena, amateurs in another and trail had its own area to show.
What makes this horse show unique is that with a simple swipe of your hotel room key, you are in the equestrian center. South Point Hotel & Casino is home to 1,200 stalls that are air conditioned, three covered arenas, one outdoor arena, a covered warm up area and much more. In the hotel and casino area you can find a spa, restaurants, a pool, bowling alley and a movie theater. South Point offers lots of fun for everyone in the family. You can even watch the arena activities from your room!
