MAQHA Corporate Challenge Celebrates 20 Years

Entries were up more than 30 percent at the Minnesota Amateur Quarter Horse Association's July 14-17 circuit in St. Paul.

2016 marked the 20th anniversary of the Minnesota Amateur Quarter Horse Association Corporate Challenge, and a special show it was! With more than $20,000 in prizes and six judges, this show was a big attraction for exhibitors and entries were up more than 30 percent from previous years. Another draw for exhibitors was the addition of National Snaffle Bit Association dual-approved classes and four NSBA-added money classes. The Corporate Challenge was July 14-17 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul.

The Corporate Challenge is run by the Minnesota Amateur Quarter Horse Association. There was a numerous amount of volunteers and sponsors that helped make the show a success. Wednesday evening there were two Ride The Pattern clinics. AQHA Professional Horsewoman Bonnie Minor demonstrated showmanship and later in the evening AQHA Professional Horseman Lainie DeBoer gave a hunt seat equitation demonstration. The annual "exhibitor bags," filled with coupons and freebies, were handed out on Thursday. A vast assortment of daily giveaways were also distributed throughout the weekend – the biggest giveaway being 4 Igloo coolers filled with Gatorade and water. There was a hospitality booth set up in the horse barn as a place for people to relax for a moment, visit with friends, or grab a refreshment! Spectators and exhibitors also had the opportunity to nominate someone for the “Humble and Kind” award. It was won by AQHA Professional Horsewoman Bonnie Minor for possessing traits that help create a positive atmosphere at the shows for all participants. She is friendly, greets others with a smile and “good luck”, is encouraging to old and new exhibitors, willing to lend a helping hand, and has a personality that embodies humbleness and kindness.

Our largest sponsor, Union Protein, donated plated leather halters for circuit awards. Embroidered saddle bags, lasered picture frames, along with an 8X10 picture from the official show photographer, Bar H Photography, were given to the All-Around Champions. Reserve All-Around winners received an embroidered RobinHood Sleazy and bronze trophy from Arc Awards. The High Point Halter Horse award was a sheet sponsored by Style Stable Products. RS Saddlery sponsored the High Point Western Horse saddle pad. Lastly, Stone Ridge Equestrian sponsored the english bridle for the High Point English Horse.

Highlights of the show include the NSBA added money classes, a full slate of rookie classes, $10,000 exhibitor fund, and having SIX arenas to ride in! Our largest classes were the Amateur Showmanship and Novice Amateur Hunter Under Saddle, both had 33 entries!

Next years show dates will be July 13-16, 2017, held at the MN State Fairgrounds. Hope to see you there!
