These veteran rodeo journalists have the inside track to a lot of good behind-the-scenes stories.

Journalists always have mentors – writers and authors we look up to, who can be our sources or who can help connect us with sources.
That’s what veteran professional rodeo writers Kendra Santos and Susan Kanode are for me. Both ladies grew up in the rodeo world and fashioned their life careers around that world. With the rodeo knowledge and connections the two of them have, I don’t need Wikipedia or AT&T. I just text or call Kendra or Susan.
For several years, Susan has authored a rodeo-related blog for NFR Insider – all year round, not just during the NFR.
At this year’s NFR, Susan has added a sidekick 2017 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo: The Half-Way Point Kendra. They are penning a two-part blog every day: Susan writes the roughstock stories and Kendra writes the timed-event stories.
Since we've reached the half-way point of the 2017 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, I've gotten their permission to share the stories they've posted so far with you:
