The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo held their annual AQHA horse show on February 17-18. Every year, exhibitors compete for scholarships and this year two $10,000 scholarships were given to Paige Ogle and Erin McCluskey.

Paige Ogle, a senior of Navasota, Texas, rode the horse Invite The Magic and to become the western high-point exhibitor. This is not the first time Ogle has achieved something like this, as she was the 2016 Austin Rodeo AQHA youth high-point rider. Being awarded a scholarship like this felt amazing for Ogle, and she is very grateful as all of her work toward the show paid off. Outside of horse shows, Ogle is also part of the College Station High School dance/drill team and National Honors Society. Ogle plans to attend Texas A&M University to major in education.

The English high-point exhibitor was Erin McCluskey, a senior from Houston, who rode the horse Reinvest In Beauty. McCluskey paired up with Reinvest In Beauty when her mount was only 3 years old, and McCluskey was ecstatic to have won the scholarship as training her horse was a long journey. After high school, McCluskey wants to study education at Texas A&M University. McCluskey also wanted to extend her thanks to her trainer, Bo Pruitt; her mother, Stacy Brandenburg; and her show team for all their support.

This year, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo committed $11.3 million to education. This amount represents scholarships, grants, endowments, auctions, a Calf Scramble program, and show premiums paid to youth. This brings the total amount that the organization has committed since inception to $171.4 million.

The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo is “a volunteer organization that emphasizes agriculture and education to develop the youth of Texas.” For information on the 2017 show, visit www.sarodeo.com. Follow the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram!
