Leading halter sire Mr Yella Fella was euthanized August 8 due to a painful orthopedic condition.
“He was 19 years old,” Linda Gordon wrote on Facebook. “ ‘Yella’ was laid to rest at Fossil Gate Farms. Mr Yella Fella compiled a remarkable record and has left a legacy that will stand the test of time.”
Linda and her husband, Gary, of Fossil Gate Farms had owned the stallion since 2004.
Greg and Mary Whalen of Rio Verde, Arizona, bred Mr Yella Fella. By the Whalens’ stallion Page Impressive and out of Lets Skip Town by Smooth Town, Mr Yella Fella was world champion amateur aged stallion in 2000 and open 2-year-old stallion in 1997.
He was reserve world champion aged stallion in open in 1999. He was third in open aged stallions in 2000 and fourth in open 3-year-old stallions in 1998.
Yella was a two-time world champion for the Palomino Horse Breeders of America, where he was the leading sire from 2003 through 2010.
Mr Yella Fella sired 385 AQHA point-earners that earned 15,390 points, 31 world championships and 25 reserve world championships. His get earned $197,613.58 in AQHA competition, 34,189 PHBA points, 799 International Buckskin Horse Association points and $1,540.85 in the Barrel Futurities of America.
