There's still time to qualify for the 2014 Level 1 Championships.

The 2014 AQHA Level 1 (Novice) Championships qualifier letters will be sent via email. Exhibitors who suspect they have earned a qualification to the Level 1 (formerly Novice) Championships should verify that their correct contact information is on file with AQHA by calling at 806-376-4811 or update your information here.

The 2014 Nutrena AQHA East Level 1 (Novice) Championship is September 30 - October 5 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and the 2014 SmartPak AQHA West Level 1 (Novice) Championship is October 1 - 5 in Las Vegas.

“There is still time left for exhibitors on the verge of qualifying for the Level 1 Championships to complete the qualification process,” said Patti Carter, AQHA executive director of shows. “Hundreds of summer shows have recently been added to the AQHA show schedule. We want to encourage exhibitors to visit the online show calendar, which will help them locate the show nearest them.”

The AQHA show schedule is at www.aqha.com/showschedule or a list can by found in the back of The American Quarter Horse Journal.

The qualifying period to qualify to compete in Level 1 classes runs from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014. The qualifying options for exhibitors seeking an invitation to the 2014 Level 1 Championships include:

  • Show at 20 shows in a Level 1 class
  • Place in the top 10 in a Level 1 class at a Merial AQHA Regional Championship Show
  • Qualify through the exhibitor’s state/provincial affiliate

New this year, Rookie classes (showmanship, horsemanship, hunt seat equitation, western pleasure, hunter under saddle and trail) will be featured at the Nutrena East and SmartPak West Level 1 Championships. Qualifying to compete in a

Rookie class is simple – exhibitors and their horses just need to be Rookie-eligible as of January 1, 2014. There is no additional qualifying method for Rookie classes. The Rookie classes, designed for beginning competitors, will run separately from the current line-up of Level 1 classes.
