For the second year, Cargill's Nutrena brand Para-Reining Event will be part of the Kentucky Reining Cup April 24-25 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.
"We are thrilled to once again host Para-Reining at the Kentucky Reining Cup," said Brad Ettleman, president of HorsePower Inc., producer of the Kentucky Reining Cup. "The Para-Reining movement is gaining ground day by day and we’re 100 percent supportive. We feel riders of all types should be able to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience of competing over the Rolex weekend."
“We are so excited to be back for the second year as the sponsor of the Nutrena Para-Reining Event during the Kentucky Reining Cup,” said Mary Reynolds, equine marketing lead. “Last year’s competition was top-notch and we are looking forward to another great event, watching and supporting these incredible athletes.”
The United States Para-Equestrian Association, together with USA Reining, introduced Para-Reining into its repertoire in 2013 at the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show in Oklahoma City. USA Reining approved Para-Reining as a fully recognized discipline in January 2015. USA Reining also partners with the National Reining Horse Association to help develop and promote the sport in the Para-Equestrian world.
The Nutrena Para-Reining Event will follow the FEI Junior and FEI Young Rider classes at 1 p.m. on April 25. Riders in the class will be coached by riders participating in the Open Reining and World Championship Freestyle Reining. Mounts will be donated by generous owners of reining horses.
Riders in the Nutrena Para-Reining Event are veterans of Para-Dressage classes, among others. Winners will receive Gist belt buckles, donated by Gist Silversmiths. The Nutrena Para-Reining Event is sponsored by Cargill's Nutrena brand and sanctioned by USA Reining and USPEA, with additional support from the AQHA and NRHA.
Now in its fifth year, the Kentucky Reining Cup is held in conjunction with the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event. This year's Kentucky Reining Cup features the FEI Concours de Reining International, as well as the Spooks Gotta Whiz Open and Baby Spooks Non Pro competition, plus the World Championship Freestyle Reining.
