The AQHA Media team received eight awards June 18 during the annual seminar of American Horse Publications, an industry group for equine publishers.

“I’m proud of the work our hardworking team has been doing,” said Carl Mullins, AQHA chief publishing officer. “I’m happy to see our efforts recognized through the American Horse Publications as we continue to tell the story of the American Quarter Horse and its owners through our magazines.”

David Brown, a four-year employee of AQHA, won first place in single advertisement for his creation of “Unspoken” in America’s Horse magazine. Brown also won the category in 2014.

AQHA Creative and Design Liaison Justin Foster, who has been with AQHA 15 years, was both second and third in the publication cover page category.

Foster was second for his design of the September 2015 cover of The American Quarter Horse Journal, a design that featured a photo taken by America’s Horse Editor Holly Clanahan of trainer Trevor Carter.

Foster was third for his design of the April 2015 cover of The American Quarter Horse Journal, featuring a historic photo of AQHA Past President Albert Mitchell, whose ranch was honored for 75 years of breeding American Quarter Horses.

Freelance illustrator Jean Abernethy was second in the editorial illustration category for an illustration of the mechanics of lead changes that appeared in the March 2015 issue of the Journal.

Freelance writers Abigail Boatwright and Sara Gugelmeyer also were recognized. Boatwright was third for her article “Sole Mates,” which appeared in the September 2015 issue of the Journal. Gugelmeyer’s honorable mention was for her article “Managing Mud,” which appeared in the March 2015 issue of the Journal.
