AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championships

The 2017 AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championships will return to Houston.

The AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championships will remain in Houston as part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The American Quarter Horse Association is pleased to announce that the 2017 AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting World Championships is scheduled for March 14-16, 2018, and will remain in Houston as part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The AQHA CMS was previously held in conjunction with the Zoetis AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse World Championships in March during the Houston Stock Show.

The AQHA CMS World is the 2017 AQHA CMS World because the world championship show’s qualifying period is January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2017.

Cowboy mounted shooting competitors race against the clock as they run through a pattern of 10 balloons and at least one barrel. The competitor to complete the pattern with the fastest time and most balloons shot will take home the AQHA world champion title.

Exhibitors at the 2017 AQHA CMS World will have the opportunity to compete in the following divisions:

  • Youth
  • Limited Youth
  • Select
  • Amateur
  • Limited Amateur
  • Open
  • Rifle (Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association-approved, not AQHA approved)
