AQHA’s Educational Seminar

If you would like to learn more about how to judge a variety of AQHA-approved classes or just want to hear how judges are instructed to judge your favorite class, make reservations to attend one of the following AQHA Educational Judging Seminars. 

AQHA University will be available to the general public beginning January at the cost of $250.

Registration can be done by visiting the AQHUniversity.

As promised, please find the following information concerning your continuing education schedule for the upcoming winter months:

When we officially open American Quarter Horse University, you will not need to take this additional step. We welcome any feedback you have as we continue to develop the new learning system.
  • 2019 AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations is now available for download. All judges are mailed a printed rulebook and do not have to request a copy.

  • Check your information at www.aqha.com/judges to make sure our information for you is current.

2018 Webinar Date

Tuesday, December 11, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. CT. All judges are welcome to register for the Webinar, even those who do not have to re-certify. Good information for all!

  • Topics include the new scoring system for showmanship, horsemanship and hunt seat equitation.
  • Like last year, questions can be asked during the webinar through the chat room.
  • The webinar will be filmed and stored on American Quarter Horse University for future study.
  • The teaching panel will include Dr. John Pipkin, Gary Roberts, Jackie Krshka, Dan Trein, Lainie DeBoer and Carla Wennberg.

2019 Testing

  • Judges will have the month of January to complete their testing through AQHUniversity.
  • Video tests will be made up of four-horse classes.
  • All rulebook tests are open book.

Re-certification Information

AQHA Specialized Judges:

  • Roping: no AQHA re-certification required this year.
  • NRCHA: no AQHA re-certification required this year; must maintain their certification with their alliance partner.
  • NRHA: no AQHA re-certification required this year; must maintain their certification with their alliance partner.
  • WCHA: no AQHA re-certification required this year; must maintain their certification with their alliance partner.
  • NCHA: no AQHA re-certification required this year; must maintain their certification with their alliance partner.
  • Over Fences: hunt seat equitation (on the flat) video testing only.
  • Versatility Ranch Horse: written test.
  • Speed Events: no AQHA re-certification required this year.
  • Team Penning/Ranch Sorting: no AQHA re-certification required this year.
  • Level 1: hunt seat equitation, showmanship and horsemanship video testing; rulebook test over core classes, speed events and Equestrians With Disabilities.
  • Dressage: no re-certifying with AQHA this year.

AQHA All Around Judges:

Showmanship, hunt seat equitation, horsemanship, working cow horse (prep material on AQH University), reining video testing (prep material on AQH University), and rulebook test.

AQHA Progressive Judges:

Showmanship, hunt seat equitation, horsemanship, working cow horse (prep material on AQH University), reining video testing (prep material on AQH University), and rulebook test.

AQHA International Judges:

  • South America: no AQHA re-certification required this year as showmanship, horsemanship and hunt seat equitation are not offered in South America.
  • Europe: showmanship, hunt seat equitation and horsemanship video testing.
  • Australia/New Zealand: showmanship, hunt seat equitation and horsemanship video testing.
