Non-Exempt (Hourly) Open Positions

From working with horse registrations, to production and processing of paperwork, to accounting, to customer care and much more, there are a variety of Non-Exempt positions available at AQHA. Much of the horse paperwork that is completed for members and owners on a day-to-day basis is completed by Non-Exempt employees. These employees make up more than two-thirds of the AQHA workforce. Depending on the area of the position, there are a variety of position levels and much room for advancement and promotion opportunities.

Customer Care Representative

AQHA is currently seeking customer-centric care representatives in Amarillo, Texas.

Position Summary:

Interact with customers to provide information in response to inquiries about programs, products and services and to handle and resolve inquiries by answering incoming direct line telephone calls, 800 number lines, e-mails and social media.  Assist customer if possible or route calls to appropriate department.

Essential Functions:

  • Confer with customers by telephone or in person to provide information about products or services, take or enter orders, cancel accounts, or obtain details of complaints.
  • Keep records of customer interactions or transactions, recording details of inquiries, complaints, or comments, as well as actions taken.
  • Complete customer request forms, prepare and complete change of address records, or assist to complete documents, using computers.
  • Refer unresolved customer grievances to designated departments for further investigation.
  • Obtain and examine all relevant information to assess validity of complaints and to determine possible causes. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Answer incoming telephone calls when all other customer service representatives are on the phone and route calls to the appropriate departments.

Registration Data Entry Clerk

AQHA is currently seeking data entry clerks for our registration processes in Amarillo, Texas.

Position Summary:

Operate data entry device, such as keyboard or scanner, to process all aspects of registering American Quarter Horses.  Duties may include verifying data and preparing materials for printing.

Mail Machine Technician

AQHA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Mail Machine Technician in Amarillo, Texas.

Position Summary:

Operate one or more of a variety of office machines, such as scanners, photocopying, photographic, and duplicating machines, or other office machines. Use various software programs to design/create layouts for American Quarter Horse Association and American Quarter Horse Foundation mailing/print projects. Prepare outgoing mail for distribution. Use hand or mail handling machines to address, seal, stamp, fold, stuff, and affix postage to outgoing mail or packages. Duties may also include keeping necessary records and completed forms.

 Essential Functions:

  • Read job orders to determine the type of work to be done, the quantities to be produced, and the materials needed.
  • Operate office machines such as high speed business photocopiers, reader/scanners, addressing machines, stencil-cutting machines, microfilm reader/printers, folding and inserting, bursting, and binder machines.
  • Place original copies in feed trays, feed originals into feed rolls, or position originals on tables beneath camera lenses.
  • Compute prices for services and receive payment, or provide supervisors with billing information.
  • Sort, assemble, and proof completed work.
  • Set up and adjust machines, regulating factors such as speed, ink flow, focus, and number of copies.
  • Monitor machine operation, and make adjustments as necessary to ensure proper operation.
  • Load machines with materials such as blank paper or film.
  • Maintain stock of supplies, and requisition any needed items.
  • File and store completed documents.
  • Clean machines, perform minor repairs, and report major repair needs.
  • Operate auxiliary machines such as collators, pad and tablet making machines, staplers, and paper punching, folding, cutting, and perforating machines.
  • Complete records of production, including work volumes and outputs, materials used, and any backlogs.
  • Deliver completed work.
  • Prepare and process papers for use in scanning, microfilming, and microfiche.
  • Cut copies apart and write identifying information, such as page numbers or titles, on copies.
  • Seal or open envelopes, by hand or by using machines.
  • Affix postage to packages or letters by hand, or stamp materials, using postage meters.
  • Verify that items are addressed correctly, marked with the proper postage, and in suitable condition for processing.
  • Place incoming or outgoing letters or packages into sacks or bins based on destination or type, and place identifying tags on sacks or bins.
  • Clear jams in sortation equipment.
  • Weigh packages or letters to determine postage needed, using weighing scales and rate charts.
  • Collect outgoing mail, using carts as necessary.
  • Determine manner in which mail is to be sent, and prepare it for delivery to mailing facilities.
  • Lift and unload containers of mail or parcels onto equipment for transportation to sortation stations.
  • Wrap packages or bundles by hand, or by using tying machines.
  • Fold letters or circulars and insert them in envelopes.
  • Remove from machines printed materials such as labeled articles, postmarked envelopes or tape, and folded sheets.
  • Add ink, fill paste reservoirs, and change machine ribbons when necessary.

Additional duties may include:

  • Move office furnishings as instructed.
  • Load/unload trailers as instructed.
  • Assist with banner and sign production as instructed.
  • Assist with ARC projects as assigned.

Museum Customer Service Representative

The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum is currently seeking a museum customer service representative in Amarillo, Texas. 

Position Summary:

Welcome and interact with customers to collect admission and provide information to visitors at the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum. 

 Essential Functions:

  • Greet customers and ascertain what each customer wants or needs.
  • Describe merchandise and explain use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires.
  • Compute sales prices, total purchases and receive and process cash or credit payment.
  • Answer questions regarding the museum and surrounding area.

Customer Request Operator

AQHA is currently seeking a customer request operator for our Production & Processing department located in our international headquarters in Amarillo, Texas.

Position Summary:

Mailroom Clerk

AQHA is currently seeking a mailroom clerk for the Production & Processing department located in our international headquarters in Amarillo, Texas.

Position Summary:

Perform duties to open and prepare incoming mail for scanning the American Quarter Horse Association.  Review, prepare and scan incoming correspondence.  Enter tracking numbers in the computer system for FedEx, UPS and USPS packages received.  Deliver incoming mail and interoffice mail throughout the building.

IT Support Specialist

AQHA is currently seeking interested candidates to apply for the part time position of IT Support Specialist located in Amarillo, Texas.

Position Summary:

Provide technical support for user workstations (desktops, laptops, tablets), voice services, peripherals, and related systems for the AQHA environment. Support software application configuration for services installed on user devices. Diagnose user issues to coordinate direct actions for resolution or escalation to tier 2 resources. Support operational needs for servers including backup services, account administration, and connectivity. This would include but is not limited to Windows Server, AS/400 operations and support, network and PC hardware and software support as well as ensuring compliance with all security policies within AQHA.

Essential Functions

  • Set up computer equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, and/or appropriate software.
  • Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
  • Refer major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.
  • Respond to program error messages by finding and correcting problems or terminating the program.
  • Answer telephone calls to assist computer users encountering problems.
  • Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems.

Competition Awards and Processing Clerk

AQHA is currently seeking a competition awards and processing clerk for our Production & Processing department located in our international headquarters in Amarillo, Texas.

Process errors, possible disqualifications, and corrections, and order the appropriate correspondence when needed. Duties may include verifying data and preparing materials for printing.

Exempt (Salary) Open Positions

Exempt employees can be found in the Association in a variety of departments that are critical to the overall business planning and strategic business decisions for the future of the Association like Marketing, Accounting, Publications, Human Resources and other areas. Manager of Racing

AQHA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the Manager of Racing position. This candidate will work out of the international headquarters located in Amarillo, TX.

Position Summary:
Develop and implement programs designed to build ownership of American Quarter Horses among racing audiences. Coordinate efforts to promote AQHA racing including, but not limited to managing meeting materials, carrying out marketing strategies and work with other departments to explore new methods and venues for reaching current and future racing enthusiast. Oversee and coordinate day to day duties of the Racing department support workers.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in coordinating the enrollment, nomination process and racing activities for the Racing Challenge.
  • Work with AQHA Racing Affiliates to promote American Quarter Horse racing, AQHA racing services, and the Bank of America Racing Challenge all with a goal of increasing ownership and membership of and wagering on American Quarter Horses.
  • Maintain the Racing web page including but not limited to site edits and updates as well as coordination with IT as appropriate.
  • Operate as the liaison between marketing department, racing department and publications to help build marketing programs, advertising opportunities, web and other digital content AQHA racing.
  • Coordinate communication plan targeted to racing offices at tracks that run American Quarter Horse racing in order to promote AQHA Racing, its services and the Bank of America Racing Challenge.
  • Working with support staff, develop a roster of benefits that would encourage membership of racing trainers into the Association of Professional Horsemen.
  • Work with youth programs staff to stimulate participation of young people into American Quarter Horse racing.
  • Work with International department to continue develop Spanish-language programs for American Quarter Horse racing, geared to both domestic and international markets.

Manager of Multilingual Resources & Communication

AQHA is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Manager of Multilingual Resources & Communication position within our International department. This position will work out AQHA's headquarters in Amarillo, Texas. 

Position Summary:

The Multilingual Resource & Communications manager will focus on providing support to international members and affiliates via the development and delivery of multilingual resources to support member experience, and specifically to support the ability to do business with AQHA and engage with AQHA and Association programs. Further, this position will liaise with Customer Care and Registration to enhance their support of the international customer experience, and with Marketing to ensure delivery of multilingual digital resources. Additionally, this position will lead communication efforts for the International team, overseeing the International newsletter, social media, blog, and other communication vehicles in order to disseminate high quality, timely content to international members. As necessary, this position may provide Customer Care and Registration support internationally via onsite services.

Programmer Analyst - Web Services

AQHA is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Programmer Analyst - Web Services. This position will work out of the international headquarters located in Amarillo, Texas.

Position Summary:

Design, create, and modify Web sites as well as interfaces related. Analyze user needs to implement Web site content, graphics, performance, and capacity. Integrate Web sites with other services, such as email, chat, telephony. Convert written, graphic, audio, and video components to compatible Web formats by using software designed to facilitate the creation of Web and multimedia content. Support development efforts for back end services that involve user interface work.

Director of Development

AQHA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the Director of Development position with the American Quarter Horse Foundation and Hall of Fame. The candidate will work out of the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum located in Amarillo, Texas.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a part of an overall strategic development plan, direct/plan/coordinate activities to solicit and maintain funds for the American Quarter Horse Foundation. Work in conjunction with the Chief Foundation Officer and the Foundation team to craft successful fundraising strategies for major & principal gift development. In conjunction with the Chief Foundation Officer, oversee major gift and prospect development, prospect research, and current/planned/endowed giving.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop an efficient and productive prospecting system that produces a significant number of qualified leads for direct cultivation and solicitation of major gift opportunities.

  • Develop strategies for building relationships with potential donors.

  • Facilitate effective donor development communications with donor prospects and donors. 

  • Identify and be able to educate potential donors on multiple giving options.

  • Develop fundraising plans that maximize contributions and are cost effective.

  • Secure charitable gifts from individuals or corporate donors.

  • Develop strategies to encourage new or increased contributions.

  • Assist in the development of budgets for major gift development.

  • Effectively steward existing donor relationships for further cultivation. 

  • Write and send letters of thanks to donors.

  • Maintains the highest ethical and professional standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in leading major gift development in a capital campaign or special project and successful record of achieving campaign/project goals.

  • Experience in developing a strategic plan for soliciting and securing gifts from private sources or the equivalent in the corporate environment.

  • Knowledge and skill in planned gift development and/or estate and financial planning.
