Drawing and painting came to Chuck DeHaan as a gift. As soon as he found out pencils left tracks, horses were the subject and Western art his base. The drawing of Fred Harman’s Red Ryder amazed this kid and awakened the need inside to express himself. Then Will James challenged him up another step.
Never having the opportunity for formal art training, Chuck worked at it the only way he could. He starts with an under painting of many grays, building up from there with many glazes.
To him the success of any artist comes from the viewers. He worked with many publishers and won many awards, but it’s still the viewers that put the final stamp of approval on any artist’s work.
